The Center for Men's Recovery

Chemical dependency is a disease that can rob men of their relationships, their careers, their dignity and often, their identity. From a young age, men may be conditioned to not feel or express pain, grief or hurt. Their feelings of love, joy and excitement also can become numbed. This void of feelings can cause many men to seek comfort with alcohol and drugs, and for some, that initial comfort becomes a physical addiction.

At the Center for Men's Recovery, we believe that men have male-specific issues that, when properly addressed, will sustain recovery, enhance their lives and improve their relationships with self and others. It is with this in mind that Hanley Center designed a treatment program to meet the needs of men between the ages of 18 and 54.

What We Can't Do Alone, We Can Do Together

Based on proven 12-Step principles, treatment at the Center for Men's Recovery uses an innovative approach that addresses male issues in a safe and supportive atmosphere. The all-male staff creates a confidential environment in which men can feel safe and open up to one another. Experiential team building therapies engage men in activities that promote trust, communication, problem solving and the ability to have fun. Men also learn to safely explore emotions and issues, and discover a renewed sense of self through expressive arts.

We Understand Men's Issues

Men's issues in addiction are often rooted in societal values that mold the stereotypical "American male" profile. Our highly-trained counselors help motivate men to break through that stereotype and learn to express emotions in healthy ways, address anger issues, reframe fear-based outlooks and responses and build relationship skills. Specific men's issues addressed in treatment include:

  • Father/son relationships
  • Anger and aggression
  • Emotional isolation
  • Spiritual disconnection
  • Sexual issues

Physical and Spiritual Wellness

At the Center for Men's Recovery, physical wellness is promoted in individual fitness and exercise programs including fitness training, aquatics, yoga, tai chi, team sports and nutrition. Our spiritual care staff offers guidance to help each man choose his spiritual path - a key to sustained recovery. Alumni Care Managers mentor and monitor each man upon completion of treatment to ease his transition back to a new life of sobriety. Because alcoholism and addiction rarely affect the addict alone, our Family Education Program offers family members a place to learn, heal and develop the skills required to make their loved one's recovery a lasting one.
